Susan Gustavson Maxwell has dedicated her career to three dimensions of musicianship; she is a teacher, performer and reedmaker. Currently, she teaches Bassoon and Intro to Music. She has also taught Music Theory, and Leadersip in Practice,a course in the School of Leadership Studies at K-State. She performs regularly with the Konza Winds Woodwind Quintet and the Tallgrass Trio and the Lincoln Symphony. A special member of the studio is "Betty" a profiler that was designed by Dr. Maxwell which is sold online and was started with the generous support of a Kansas State University Research Grant. This unique tool is one of the few designed and sold in the US, and the only known bassoon reed tool designed and retailed by a woman.
